Welcome to the Hobbyhorse Developments range of 7mm lost wax and white metal castings.
Since taking over the business from the late John McWilliams in 2008 we (Simon, Viv and Hector) have introduced many new items. Castings we have available include many for the pre-grouping companies as well as the four post 1923 companies.
The medium used for these castings includes brass, nickle silver, bronze and white metal. The white metal casting is done “in house” using high quality metal that gives a good surface finish as well as good detail reproduction. To help identify the white metal castings in the range the letter “W” appears as a suffix to the normal identity code.
We are very fortunate that some of our castings use patterns made by some of the most renowned model makers in our hobby.
- Stanley Beeson patterns are used in some of the Hobbyhorse LMS and GWR castings.
- Tony Reynalds has agreed to provide many of his patterns. The “Reynalds Range” comprises three sections GWR, LMS and LNER. Over the years Tony has built quite a diverse selection of models. The castings now available reflect a selection of the many patterns for the models that he has built.
- Lee Marsh has provided some GWR patterns for chimneys. These can be found in the Hobbyhorse GWR section .
- Kevin Wilson has also provided some GWR patterns.
Simon has built a number of models over the years and on the gallery page are some photos of models that he has made. One of these is the Stirling Single, which was scratch built to commission. Some castings from this loco can be found under the GNR section. Future plans Our plans for the future are to expand the Hobbyhorse range. We have a selection of patterns that John McWilliams did not use – so watch this space as they say! Any future models Simon makes will also bring new castings in to the range so we look forward to offering them on the website in due course.
